Current Women’s Football Leagues

There are several women’s football leagues at the national and regional levels. Currently, there are no local leagues. Every few years, new leagues will pop up and some leagues will fall apart.

Each league has different objectives, strengths, and weaknesses. We aim to produce the most up to date information on leagues and their associated teams.

  • The average league is in existence for 5 years.
  • The longest running league was the Independent Women's Football League (IWFL) which ran for 18 years (now defunct).
  • Most leagues collapse due to poor management or changing priorities.
  • The WNFC and WFA appear to be consolidating team franchises to increase competition.

Women's National Football Conference

The WNFC was founded in 2019 by Odessa Jenkins, the owner of the Texas Elite Spartans. Teams entering and exiting the league have settled, and established teams have emerged. They focus on high-quality play and talent development. There is a large emphasis on social media and branding to promote the league. They have high standards for all team franchises.

WFA

Women's Football Alliance

The WFA was founded in 2009 by Lisa King, the owner of the Cali War. There are several divisions, with larger teams playing at the Pro Level and smaller teams playing at lower divisions. Many teams turn over every year, with new teams entering and others leaving. The WFA is the largest league in the U.S. and has also branched out internationally. They are focused on showcasing talent, primarily at the Pro Level. Lower division teams play competitive games with smaller markets and roster numbers.

American Women's Football League

The AWFL was founded in 2024. This is the newest of the major leagues, and has seen a spike in teams transferring from other leagues. There isn’t a lot of information about this league readily available. They focus on smaller teams and accepting developing players/teams.

These leagues are smaller national leagues or regional leagues

Ladies American Football (LAF) 8man
